Six public Arizona-based companies made this year’s Fortune 500, with a bevy of other national firms with large East Valley presences also on the list.
Tempe-based U.S. Airways – rumored of late to be in the market to acquire or merge with American Airlines – heads the list of East Valley businesses included, ranking 208th overall. Insight Enterprises, also headquartered in Tempe, ranked No. 460.
Other businesses on the list that call the Valley home: Avnet (108), Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold (135), Republic Services Inc. (314), and PetSmart (400).
A number of organizations that have large East Valley presences also made the list, despite not being headquartered in Arizona. These include: Boeing (39, Mesa), Intel (51, Chandler), Express Scripts (60, Tempe), Penske Automotive Group (222, Tempe), and eBay (228, Chandler), among others. Retail giant WalMart (2) and mega-banks Bank of America (13), Chase (16), and Wells Fargo (26) also have significant East Valley presences.
