Come enjoy a beautiful Spring Arizona morning, and get to the "Deck Park" early this Sunday for the exciting “Concours d’Elegance" Jaguar club car show, and the free Copperstate 1000 Road Rally, one of the premiere vintage car road rallies in America.
Each year these ultra-car enthusiasts gather to exchange stories, ideas, news, and of course, the road rally and the invaluable friendships the drivers make along the way.
Margaret T. Hance Park, commonly recognized as the greenbelt above the Deck Park Tunnel over I-10 in downtown Phoenix, is set to host a special event to make the classic car lover salivate! This Sunday, April 23, the park will be host to the exciting “Concours d’Elegance” Jaguar club car show from 9am to 1pm.
This exciting classic car show is being billed as “Saloons In The Old West”. In this case the word “saloons” is referring to classic cars. From 9am to 1pm Deck Park will host the event at 3rd St. and Moreland (in case you are new to the Valley the “Deck Park” is right next to the main Phoenix Public Library near Central Avenue and I-10). Jaguar classics from XK 120 Roadsters of the 1950s, polished to a spit-shine XKE Roadsters of the 1960s, to later model XJS and “S”-Types will be “pedigree ready” as they compete for coveted award titles.
There will be 100 vintage cars on display from all over the country at the park. Walk among isles of classic Jaguars in top condition. Watch the classic car awards and then stay for the even more exciting kick off event of the Copperstate 1000 road rally as dozens of classic automobiles embark through 1000 winding miles of Arizona’s most scenic canyons, deserts, lakes, and mountain park highways. The Copperstate 1000 has included such classic automobiles as a 1926 Bentley LeMans, 1937 Buick Custom Model 40 T, 19i53 Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster, 1953 Ferrari 340 MM Competition Le Mans “Spyder”, 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible, and a 1959 MG A Roadster, just to name a few.
The Copperstate 1000 Road Rally is one of the premiere vintage car road rallies in America. Originally started as a fundraiser for the Phoenix Art Museum in 1990, this event has continued for 16 years. Each year Arizona highways see some of the finest examples of automobiles displayed anywhere in the world. The Copperstate 1000 Road Rally gives these ultra-car enthusiasts a chance to see and be seen by fans and collectors alike. Each year they gather to exchange stories, ideas, news, and of course, the road rally and the invaluable friendships the drivers make along the way.
The entrants come from Canada and Mexico, as well as the U.S. and get a sight seeing trip that last 4 days with catered food and events enjoying the best Arizona’s beautiful landscape has to offer. Many of the participants return year after year. Approximately 140 drivers participate in the event that attracts more classic car enthusiasts every year.
So here’s the lineup; this Sunday, arrive at Margaret T. Hance Park “Deck Park”, early. From the East Valley it’s best to take the U.S. 60 east to the intersection of I-10. Take I-10 West towards downtown Phoenix and the deck park tunnel. When you near the deck park tunnel you can either exit on 7th St, in the right hand lane, or use the HOV lane and exit off of 3rd St. Either way you’ll see the deck park and be able to follow the signs and the flow of traffic to the classic car event.
The Jaguar Club’s “Concours d’Elegance is set to show from 9am to 1pm. The kickoff for the road rally usually sets off around 1:30 pm, but can be delayed to later in the afternoon should the weather on Sunday be hotter than expected. But what you, the car enthusiast, can expect is a great time for yourself, your family, or friends who are also classic car buffs.
