A subsidiary of Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc. plans to open an order fulfillment center in Goodyear, a move that's expected to create more than 600 full-time jobs and fill another 700 temporary positions during the holiday season.
The 500,000-square-foot order fulfillment center in Goodyear would be the second facility in metropolitan Phoenix that's operated by Amazon.com, which opened a fulfillment center in Phoenix in the fall.
Goodyear officials said Amazon.com, which has annual sales of more than $10 billion, could provide a significant boost with its jobs and tax revenue.
Company spokeswoman Patty Smith said the new Arizona location is a good fit for Amazon.com because of its proximity to southern California and abundance of skilled workers.
Amazon.com has dozens of fulfillment centers all over the world for faster delivery of its products, which include books, music and software.
