Eclectic retailer Anthropologie is scheduled to open its Scottsdale Fashion Square store Friday. It will be only the second Valley store for the trendy chain.

The first is in Kierland Commons, the open-air shopping center just a few miles north on Scottsdale Road from the enclosed mall.

Anthropologie sells a hodgepodge of unusual clothing, furniture, home furnishings, gift items and flea market finds.

The in-mall store entrance will open Friday

While Anthropologie offers new spending opportunities for Fashion Square shoppers, an old favorite simultaneously closes. Eddie Bauer Home will sell off the last remnants of stock and shut its doors this week.

Eddie Bauer’s cashstrapped parent Spiegel Corp. said in February it would dump the home furnishings stores to concentrate on its clothing stores.

Louis Vuitton, which is embarking on a major expansion in the mall, plans to move into the space vacated by the defunct Eddie Bauer chain temporarily.

That isn’t a for-sure deal, but the mall as been so packed it hasn’t had room for a seasonal shop for several years and is a likely candidate for a short stint in the prime midmall space, said mall marketing manager Chris Stallman.

At Chandler Fashion Center, the Eddie Bauer Home store ran out of inventory and closed earlier this week.

But the space in the Chandler mall has already been snapped up by women’s clothing retailer Coldwater Creek.

Watch for construction work to transform the space to begin quickly. No opening date has been set yet for Coldwater Creek’s Chandler debut.

Kirkland’s furniture store opened Wednesday at SanTan Village, the burgeoning shopping center at Williams Field Road west of the planned San Tan Freeway stretch of Loop 202 in Gilbert.

A new fitness center is gearing up to open Monday at the DC Ranch master-planned community in north Scottsdale.

The DC Ranch Village Health Club and Spa, on the southeast corner of Thompson Peak Parkway and Union Hills Drive in Scottsdale, is a DMB Sports Club — same owners and developers as The Gainey Village Health Club.

About 7,000 square feet of the 81,000-square-foot club are set aside as a kids’ wing.

Features include two heated outdoor pools and a spray garden for kids, an indoor basketball court, racquetball and squash courts, Pilates and yoga studios, cardio and strength training areas, a cafe, full-service spa, hair salon and boutique.
