Scottsdale Fashion Square has landed another major designer exclusive.

Celebrity handbag designer Kate Spade is pegged to open her first Arizona store at the shopping center.

Kate Spade has 18 stores in such fashion capitals as New York, Boston, Dallas, San Francisco and Boca Raton, Fla.

Some Kate Spade products are carried in Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom stores in Scottsdale and Chandler and Saks Fifth Avenue at Biltmore Fashion Park in east Phoenix. And a selection of the designers’ chic paper goods can be purchased at M & Co Papery in downtown Mesa.

But to-date the designer has not opened a signature store in Arizona. Kate Spade stores carry a variety of merchandise from pricey shoes to the famous handbags, fancy notepaper, fashion and home accessories

A spokeswoman for Scottsdale Fashion Square parent Westcor said the company could not discuss plans for the Kate Spade store since there are still some minor details of the pending lease to be worked out. If those are finalized soon, the Kate Spade store in Scottsdale Fashion Square would open in late May on the first level of the Neiman Marcus-Dillard’s wing.
