Less than three weeks after a Gilbert warehouse fire sent black plumes of smoke into the sky, the wholesale company that lost $8.1 million in inventory announced plans to rebuild. Farnsworth Wholesale will move its headquarters to a 30,000-square-foot warehouse near Mesa’s Falcon Field starting July 16, company Vice President Jack Stapley wrote in a letter to customers.

Farnsworth has maintained full capacity in its HVAC and waterworks divisions despite the June 18 blaze, but the company is still working to restore its plumbing unit. Plumbing functions are being conducted from operations in Peoria and Mesa for now.

While the company had to operate on cell phones after the fire, Stapley said no records or computer data were lost because firefighters stopped flames from destroying an office area.

The massive blaze triggered 200 firefighters to respond, but no serious injuries resulted. An initial investigation found a cigarette caused the fire in an outside storage area.

Mayor Lewis and his Economic team continue to strike out. Can not keep a significant business in Gilbert as they lose them to Chandler now Mesa. No leadership at the helm, no business success.
