A career fair and expo focusing on careers in the alternative energy and environmental sectors will be held Jan. 6, 2009 in Phoenix.

The event is free and open to adults and teens age 16 and older who are interested in learning about green careers.

“Green” industries include solar power, recycling operations, wastewater treatment, development of clean technology, and construction of green buildings. The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks environmental science and protection among the 30 fastest-growing occupations.

The Green Collar Career Fair and Expo will provide an opportunity for Arizona workers to learn more about which careers present the best immediate and long-term opportunities, and how to prepare themselves to take part in this industry.

Recruiters from Arizona green businesses will be available at the career fair, and there will be presentations showcasing products and technologies. Several schools and universities that offer training and degree programs will also be on hand.

The fair is sponsored by the Arizona Women’s Education & Employment Inc., Phoenix Workforce Connection and the Arizona Department of Economic Security and the Aspire Workforce Development Initiative.
