Salt River Project and Colorado-based Juwi Solar Inc. have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement for 19 megawatts of solar photovoltaic energy from a facility to be built in Queen Creek. SRP will purchase all of the solar energy produced at the Queen Creek power plant, which is expected to be online by the end of 2012.

The solar power generated by the project will offset approximately 21,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year, the equivalent of taking approximately 4,100 cars off the road. It will produce an amount of energy equal to that needed to serve about 3,300 SRP customers' homes.

The plant will require about 140 acres of land and will create approximately 150 jobs during the construction of the project.
