The leader of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council is leaving to take the helm of a similar organization in San Diego.

Barry Broome, who has been president and CEO of the public-private economic development partnership since 2005, will take charge of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation on Aug. 1. He championed the passage of Arizona’s program for renewable energy tax incentives and coordinated with markets over Arizona as well as in Europe in Asia. During his tenure, more than 160 companies, 30,980 jobs and $6.5 billion came to the metro area. “Barry has been a passionate and authentic champion for Arizona,” said Don Cardon, Arizona Commerce Authority president and CEO. “He is not only a thought leader but also a thought doer. I have admired his untiring willingness to work on behalf of all Arizonans and build viable economic models for the communities that GPEC serves.”
