Mesa Mayor Keno Hawker said Monday he was informed that an agreement has been reached between the city and MD Helicopters regarding the company’s future at Falcon Field.
Mesa economic development officials have scheduled an announcement this morning regarding a “key development” at Falcon Field, and several sources told the Tribune that it involves the MD Helicopters facility at the Mesa airport.
MD Helicopters, which makes light, single-engine and twin-engine helicopters, has been looking for a new location to accommodate its future expansion plans. Two officials for MD Helicopters said Monday they have not made a decision about their future location.
However, other sources said the announcement will deal with the company’s future at Falcon Field.
Sources told the Tribune that the news will be “positive” for the airport.
MD Helicopters has been looking at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and sites in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana for its future location.
The company cited a rapid increase in lease rates at Falcon Field as its reason for wanting to relocate.
