The Arizona Farm Bureau said Thursday retail food prices in supermarkets decreased during the fourth quarter of 2007.
According to an informal survey from the bureau, the total cost of 16 basic grocery items was 70 cents lower than the third quarter 2007. The 16 items includes items such as apples, potatoes, bacon, sirloin tip roast, Cheerios, a gallon of milk and a dozen large eggs.
The bureau said the item with the largest jump in price over the previous quarter was eggs, which rose 46 cents to an average of $2.45.The price of bacon fell $1.03 to settle at $2.76 per pound and whole milk fell $44 cents to $3.65 per gallon.
