East Valley drivers saw more relief at the pump as average prices dropped 7.5 cents last week.
In the East Valley communities - including Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Ahwatukee Foothills, Apache Junction and Queen Creek - drivers paid an average $3.458 Thursday, according to AAA Arizona. That's down from the prior week but still up over 2 cents from a month ago and more than 20 cents over a year ago.
The statewide average decreased 4 cents to $3.509 per gallon. Nationally, prices dropped 4.1 cents to $3.589 per gallon.
“The price of crude oil retreated slightly over the last two weeks, driving pump prices in the same direction,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “However, AAA still maintains that August will be a seesaw for pump prices due to tensions in the Middle East and impending hurricane activity.”
