East Valley drivers paid 2.5 cents less at the pump last week, according to AAA Arizona.

In Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe and surrounding East Valley cities, gas was an average $3.741 per gallon.

The statewide average dropped 2.7 cents to $3.708 per gallon, making it 18.5 cents below year-ago prices. Nationally, prices fell almost a penny to $3.691 per gallon., which is 17.3 cents below year-ago levels.

“While the recent price movement has varied by state, the year-over-year savings have been nearly universal across the country,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “This continues to support AAA’s projection that prices will peak lower and earlier than 2012, barring unforeseen circumstances.”
