This week’s column comes from Amy Howell, director of human resources for Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital.
Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital offers opportunities for its employees to grow and train in other areas, Howell said.
“Healthcare is a growing field and always in demand for clinical caregivers. The careers in healthcare provide flexible scheduling for employees. Additionally, the hospital environment provides opportunities for more traditional careers such as Information Systems, Accounting, Business Services, Human Resources and Security.”
The company offers a program that repays up to $40,000 in student loans associated with earning an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
“We also offer to Nursing a Retention Bonus which rewards our loyal staff on an annual basis. We offer a Pay as You Go Nursing Educational Assistance program. In this program, individuals who are accepted into either a bachelor’s or associate’s of nursing program will have their educational expenses pre-paid directly to the learning. In addition, we also will pay the employee for time while in clinical instruction,” she said.
By focusing on programs such as these, the company is able to recruit and retain nursing staff.
“At Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital, we are here to improve the health of our community through compassion, integrity, and quality care. That also means we apply those same values to caring for employees on the frontline of delivering clinical and service excellence,” she said.
