Whether you’re wiring a vehicle for a trailer, installing new audio or video equipment or are restoring an old favorite, electrical problems will be high on the to-avoid list.

The most common causes include loose connections and chaffing wires that eventually short out.

You should check out the protector Shrink Wrap Kit from Del City for about $35, a setup that includes more than 100 pieces of flame-retardant, single-wall blue, red, black and yellow shrink tubing in diameters ranging from 1/8” to 3/4”. Cut in sixinch lengths, the tubing comes in a transparent-plastic compartmentalized carrying case. Before creating a joint between two wires, just slip on a piece of the protective tubing of the appropriate diameter. Once the connection is soldered or clamped, apply heat and the tube will shrink to seal the joint to provide an extra layer of protection.
