SanTan Village, a planned 3 million square-foot mixed-use development near Williamsfield Road and the Loop 202 freeway in Gilbert, is less than a year from opening a 1.2 million square-foot “lifestyle center.”

Officials with Westcor, the company developing SanTan, said they plan to open the development October 26.

BY THE NUMBERS: When the last nail is hammered and slab of pavement poured, SanTan Village will encompass 3 million square feet of retail, entertainment, restaurant, office and residential space on 500 acres of land.

“This is the future of the southeast Valley,” said David Scholl, Westcor’s senior vice president of development. FOR THE YOUNG: Westcor officials recently reached deals with 11 tenants including Anchor Blue, Claire’s, Industrial Rideshop, Johnny Rockets, Journey’s, Wet Seal and Zumiez to open stores at SanTan Village.

LOCATION: The stores, which are geared specifically towards young people, will be clustered in one area of the shopping center.

ALREADY LINED UP: Other retailers previously announced by Westcor officials include Footlocker, Hot Topic, American Eagle Outfitters and Aéropostale.

GEARED MORE TOWARD ADULTS: Other retailers include Coach, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft and Ben Bridge Jewelers. Dillard’s and Harkins Theatres are also opening soon, and officials are in talks with Macy’s to occupy one of SanTan’s anchor spaces.

USING HISTORY: John Tran, a project designer working on SanTan Village, said it was designed to incorporate themes reminiscent of Gilbert’s rich agricultural history.

SMALL-TOWN FEEL: Other design features include a main street-style thoroughfare similar to that of a small town, which cuts through the development, a color scheme conveying the “cool” shades of the night sky during the hours of dusk, and simple, frill-free architecture.

EVEN MORE FOR THE KIDS: Tran said SanTan will include a fountain and water features and a play area for children.
