For the 11th consecutive year, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has received a perfect score from the Federal Aviation Administration for operations and safety.

"This is a major milestone for Gateway," said Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, who is also a member of the airport's board of directors. "It is difficult for an airport to obtain one perfect inspection, let alone 11 consecutive."

Airports that are certified by the FAA for passenger service must undergo comprehensive inspections annually to ensure compliance with federal aviation regulations. The inspections include fueling procedures, employee training records, inspection records and emergency response procedures.
