Sino has Success in Early Childhood Chinese Immersion Montessori Program
Changes in education are occurring quickly as parents are provided with more choices in their children’s academics. Chinese immersion language learning is one of the emerging points of focus and interest in our schools and for parents. In keeping with this trend, Sino International Montessori School in Tempe has quietly opened the first Mandarin Chinese and English Immersion Montessori School in Tempe for 2 to 6 year olds.
Acquisition of a foreign language is best learned at an early age. Brain-Based learning expert, Eric Jensen said the “schools ought to expose children to larger, more challenging vocabularies and to foreign languages by age 12”. Most colleges require two years of foreign language classes in high school. High-ranking colleges are now asking for three or more years of a second language. Accordingly, Arizona schools have met that two-year requirement by incorporating a foreign language in their graduation requirements.
Sino Montessori gives children a head start in the race to learn a foreign language. Its unique curriculum immerses children in the two languages, Mandarin Chinese and English, using Montessori methods when they are younger, 2 to 12 years old. It’s a child-centered curriculum using the individualized, multisensory approach in core areas like Sensorial, Practical Life, Mathematics and Language. The three-time Noble Peace Prize awardee, Dr. Maria Montessori, used scientific observations and was the first person to talk about “windows of opportunity” during a child’s sensitive periods of development and the importance of thought development.
The Sino program found that after about a month of full time instruction, children are engaging in conversation, are actively reading and sing songs in Mandarin. Sino Montessori is currently enrolling for fall and summer programs.
