Kiel Klaphake, Arizona Broadway Theatre’s executive producer, with the help of 16 unsuspecting audience members, announced ABT’s lineup of productions for its upcoming seventh season.

The season kicks off Oct. 14 with “A Chorus Line.” Winner of nine Tony Awards, “A Chorus Line” provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the events that shaped their lives and their decision to become dancers.

“The show is about what we do and why we do it,” said Kurtis W. Overby, ABT’s artistic associate and resident choreographer. “It strikes a chord not only with performers, but also with anyone who has had a dream about making it in their chosen field.”

The season continues with the musical version of “A Miracle on 34th Street,” with music by Meredith Willson (“The Music Man” and “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”), “A Miracle on 34th Street” brings the cheer and spirit of the holiday season to the musical stage.

The new year begins with the stage version of “Singin’ in the Rain,” one of the most celebrated and beloved movie musicals of all time, opening Jan. 6.

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical about Tinseltown and glamour takes center stage beginning March 2, 2012, with the hit show “Sunset Boulevard.” On April 20, 2012, Arizona Broadway Theatre presents the regional premiere of “Tarzan,” based on the Disney film. With music by Grammy Award-winner Phil Collins, “Tarzan” swings onto the stage with technical and lighting wizardry.

“We are thrilled to bring you something so exciting this coming season,” Overby said. “The Valley hasn’t seen anything like this produced by a local theater company, and we’re pulling out all the stops.”

The summer begins June 8, 2012, with the return of the students from Rydell High School. Get reacquainted with Danny, Sandy, Kenicke and Rizzo as ABT presents “Grease.”

“Following ‘Grease,’ which is the most requested show by our patrons, will be ‘The Will Rogers Follies.’” Overby said. “The show focuses on the life and career of famed humorist and performer Will Rogers.”

“The Will Rogers Follies,” opening Aug. 3, 2012, is set against the backdrop of the Ziegfeld Follies and includes spectacular production numbers and conveys the personality of this quintessentially American figure.

Season 7 will conclude with Neil Simon’s classic comedy “The Odd Couple,” beginning Sept. 7, 2012.

Deadline for all season subscription renewals is March 18. New subscriptions will go on sale starting April 18. Beginning May 23, single tickets go on sale for all of the 2011-2012 productions.
