Surprise police detectives arrested a 53-year-old man Wednesday for stalking a female resident of the city.

The victim and suspect met on an online dating site, police said, and then met one time in person, at which time the victim decided not to pursue any further contact with him.

Approximately three weeks later, the suspect showed up at the victim’s home and assaulted her, police said. He then came back to the victim’s home numerous times, leaving notes posted on her residence, according to police, and the notes became increasingly threatening in nature.

The suspect had provided a fictitious name to the victim during his contacts with her, and no other information was known as to his true identity, police said Thursday.

Through an investigation, which included surveillance and forensic electronic examination, detectives said they were able to positively identify the suspect.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Robert Kaczmarek was taken into custody near his home in the city of Maricopa. He was charged with stalking, a class 3 felony. He was booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail.

The Surprise Police Department requests that anyone who has experienced similar behaviors by Kaczmarek to contact the Surprise Police Criminal Investigations Division at 623-222-4000.
