Registration is open for the second annual WCO Summer Music Workshops.

Sponsored by the Wickenburg Children’s cultural Organization, the workshops will be July 11-15 on the Wickenburg High School campus. Over the course of any of the workshops, children and young adults have the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of talented local musicians and educators.

In the Music Explorer’s Workshop, participants will have an opportunity to learn about music, including the families of instruments, how to read music and how to make instruments out of everyday objects. In addition, every participant will have opportunities to test-drive common orchestra and band instruments. Designed for ages 7-12, registration is $45.

The Young Performers Workshops, for ages 7-18, are intensive five-day starter courses for those interested in learning the piano or a string instrument, introducing the mechanics of playing as well as the historical roots of modern music.

In the Piano Performers Workshop, participants will learn the basics of playing the piano; as a participant in the Strings Performers Workshop, the participants will similarly learn the essentials of playing the violin, viola or cello. All instruments are provided by the WCO, but spaces are limited. Cost is $75 per workshop.

Scholarships are available for aspiring young musicians.

For information and registration, email music@wco.org, call 928-684-7473, or stop by the Garcia Little Red School House at 245 N. Tegner St. in Wickenburg.
