The US tax paying citizen should not have to be responsible for providing education for illegal immigrants (children). I do not understand if these spanish speaking children are US Citizens why they do not speak english already. When I went to elementary school a birth certificate was required upon enrollment, when my children attended school a birth certificate was required upon enrollment. What happened?
I hope the States pass laws that prevent illegal immigrants from receiving any education at the expense of tax payers.

I think this is backwards thinking on the part of the school superintendent. More kids = more money for the district. What about a quality education for all the US taxpayers children that are attending these schools. If there were not so many illegal children attending these schools then the money paid by the taxpaying citizens should go farther in providing a quality education. If a law was passed denying free education to all illegal children in the US then YES a major decrease would happen , resulting in teachers needing to be let go and school shutting down. But, the upside is that the US Taxpayers would not be spending hundreds of millions of dollars educating another countries children. The scale has to rebalance itself and it could be painful, but it needs to happen.

35 NATIVE BORN, ENGLISH-SPEAKING STUDENT JAMMED INTO A KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

I hope all the Left-wing/Liberal/Progressives and Democrats read this article and realise what how their "PRO-ILLEGAL ALIEN IMMIGRATION" agenda has destroyed any chance for these children to learn.
Legal American English-Speaking children are suffering so that "ILLEGAL ALIEN CHILDREN and ANCHOR BABIES" are accomodated in "ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE" kindergarten classes.
Tell me...how can one teacher ...."TEACH"....35 kindergarten students? Why have these School Superintendents allowed 'ILLEGAL ALIEN and ANCHOR BABIES" ...educational needs come before the American Children of this Nation? I only hope that the State Attorney General and the Maricopa County Attorney look into this situation.
The "BLAME" also falls one the Mayor of Phoenix, Phil Gordon, for allowing Phoenix to become a "SANCTUARY CITY" for ILLEGAL ALIENS.
I am worried now that because our own Mayor Scott Smith allowed Mesa to become a "SANCTUARY CITY" along with ex-Mesa Police Chief George Gascon (currently the ex-San Francisco Police Chief and current San Francisco District Attorney....does this really surprise any one...don't forget Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, the Mesa City Council and the Mesa City Manager hired him from from the Los Angeles Police Department...the original "SANCTUARY CITY" in the Nation).
Thank goodness that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and ex-Maricopa County Attorney Andy Thomas keep the heat on the ILLEGAL ALIEN IMMIGRATION problem. Without these two Arizona Heroes at the helm and the courageous actions of Speaker Adams, Senate President Pearce and Governor Brewer to make SB 1070 a law...where would we be now?

LOL what a horribly thought out article. Jolie Mcculough you seriously need to re-address your view point for future works. Schools are in the business of educating students with given
resources, not obtaining state aide by any means. Why would it be appropriate to give a school millions of dollars worth of aid to educate non-tax payers (ILLEGALS) kids? So what of it, if School A get less money from the tax payers because it has and it educates a lower number of kids that year? So what!! oh yeah, lets write an aritcle about it and maintain we need illegals kids to bolster enrollment so more state funds(all our money) can be illegitimately obtained. I love your view, very American. The next article you should write is how to defraud the welfare system...

Are you kidding me english speeking children are taking a back seat to nonenglish speaking children. In other words the children of legal tax paying citizens are taking a backseat to the children of people who probably should not even be in this country anyhow. HOW IS THIS NOT WRONG???

"With enrollment – and consequently, state and federal funding – dropping annually, the district was unable to hire another kindergarten teacher for native English speakers in 2010. So every English-speaking student who moved into the district was added to Barnhizer’s already long roster." WHAT! It should be the OTHER WAY AROUND. If you are here LEGALLY, one of the REQUIREMENTS is a basic understanding of English- Written, and spoken. I'm tired of my tax dollars teaching those persons that can't speak/understand ENGLISH. If their parents want to to learn it, HAVE THEM PAY FOR IT!!!

    typo correction:

Change "to to" to read like this "them to".

Also, I'm glad my child lives in a section of Mesa where said student enrollment isn't so pronounced....

About time!. Spending legal taxpayers money for illegals is ridiculous. The schools should concentrate on educating our own people, not illegals. [sad]

Personally I think there should be a law requiring that any child enrolled in school speak english or no admittance. It seems as if this is just one more way that the American way of life is being mocked and totally disregarded.

U.S. citizen parents are increasingly choosing charter, private, parochial, and home schooling. It's hard to sympathize with public school administrations that choose to puff up their numbers at the expense of U.S. taxpayers by marketing to illegals.

Ummm, by choosing home schooling, parochial schooling or charter schooling, don't U have to be rich to pay the high tuition fees??? Then these K-12 educational options are for the rich, while the "Poor" get to use "Public K-12 education", is that right???...LOL.

It is interesting to hear people that are so easily swayed from what our Country stands for and has stood for since it's inception. The facts we can all agree on is that our immigrations system is broken beyond any easy fix. This does not address our concerns. The fact is that there are issues that are hard to deal with but I will never be a person who will not educate a child even if it causes my child to have difficulties. Our Country is built on multiculturalism. Always has been and always will be. The same arguments were made for Italians, Irish and any other wave of immigrants. The fact is we NEED a good influx of immigrants to make this country strong. Our system doesn't allow that.

How can these school officials and citizens of states with high illegal aliens numbers in schools?
Let's do the math according to the article.
The Super. stated that he lost 500 illegal students, and his district was gong to lose 2.5 million dollars.
2.5 million / 500 = $5000 per student. Now, that means $5000 per illegal is coming out of US Citizens Tax money. Think about it. How much better would the schools be IF there were no illegals there...

The story should be about how much the school systems are "SAVING" since many illegals(but not enough) are moving out of our state, not "LOSING"!......After all, if one uses common sense, which there appears to be a shortage of in this day and age, one would think that the fewer the students, the less cost there is to educate the ones who ARE here legally! There would be smaller classrooms for fewer students, and less teacher and administrative costs incurred. Maybe if the school systems had to tighten their belts a little bit, they would not be so eager to accept any student regardless of whether they had a legal birth certificate or not. When I was a student, it was the first thing my parents had to provide....the second was shot records, the third was previous school records......
