Pants, shirts, a new pet?
Shoppers at Phoenix's Metrocenter mall will soon have a chance to adopt a furry friend.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control will open its first retail store in Metrocenter in August.
The store will be located on the lower level near Sears and will showcase 20 to 50 dogs and cats available for adoption.
There are no plans to provide vaccinations or take in animals at the new shelter, but dog licenses will be available.
A spokeswoman for Animal Care and Control says the goal is to use the commercial space to appeal to shoppers who otherwise might not have considered a pet adoption.
The mall manager says the partnership will drive more traffic for both Metrocenter and the shelter.
