A Scottsdale resident turned $40 into $135,882 after hitting a jackpot on Christmas at Casino Arizona on Loop 101 and McKellips Road.

Armando Rodriguez, a hotel maintenance worker, said in a news release that he’ll use the winnings to buy his son a birthday present and help his family.

“I was here at 4 o’clock in the morning and came back because I knew I was going to win,” he said.

Rodriguez’s MegaJackpot is Casino Arizona’s ninth of 2006, and “the fourth in a recent run of top awards,” the release stated.

Two MegaJackpots of $129,724 and $138,283 were awarded in October and another of $183,294 was given out in November, according to the release. There was also a triple run of Mega-Jackpots in July. All winnings came from Wheel of Fortune games.

“It’s really exciting to have so many slot players win top payouts this past year at Casino Arizona,” said David Vandiver, director of slot operations, in a news release. “Casino Arizona’s slots now pay out more than $7 million every day, and we anticipate 2007 will be an even luckier year for our guests.”

According to the release, the Wheel of Fortune slots represent 4 percent of the casino’s machines. In all, the machines have paid out $3.2 million, the record for the “highest progressive payouts in the state,” the release says.
