PHOENIX - The U.S. Navy says it plans to close its Phoenix base and move its reservists and full-time personnel to quarters at Luke Air Force Base.

The 9 1/2-acre Navy Operational Support Center along Interstate 10 just west of Interstate 17 will close by 2011.

About 1,100 Navy and U.S. Marine Corps reservists are assigned to the base, along with 35 full-time military and civilian personnel.

Renovation work on facilities at Luke is expected to begin in the fall.
