The FBI says it's investigating vandalism at a mosque under construction in Phoenix.

The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations asked the FBI to probe the vandalism, which occurred a few weeks ago. An FBI spokesman in Phoenix said Wednesday that the agency is looking into the matter.

Representatives of the mosque suspect the broken glass and graffiti is related to the current anti-Muslim sentiment nationwide resulting from the controversy over a planned Islamic community center in New York City.

CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper says anti-Muslim rhetoric, the planned Quran burning in Florida and the 9/11 terror attacks anniversary make it reasonable to suspect the vandalism is linked to those events.
