Cave Creek schools chief retires after 3 years

Cave Creek Unified School Superintendent Tacy Ashby is retiring after three years with the district.

Ashby, 53, cited personal reasons for choosing not to renew her contract with the district. She did say in a news release that she will seek "new opportunities for professional growth and contribution."

The district governing board approved her request to be released from her contract effective July 31.

Debbi Burdick, the school district's associate superintendent for teaching and learning, will assume the role of interim superintendent during the 2008-09 school year. The governing board will start a national search for a permanent replacement in spring 2009.
