The Greater Phoenix Economic Council will honor Mesa Mayor Scott Smith at its annual dinner Oct. 13 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort.

Smith will receive the Outstanding Regional Contribution Award for his part in Tempe-based First Solar’s local expansion, keeping the Chicago Cubs’ spring training facility in the area and efforts to attract jobs to the East Valley.

“Time and again, Mayor Smith has demonstrated his commitment to improving the region’s economy by taking an active role in securing high-quality jobs in the city of Mesa,” GPEC president and CEO Barry Broome said. “GPEC is grateful for his efforts not only in working to craft a quality business operating environment for local companies but also to raise the region’s national profile as a leader with the U.S. Conference of Mayors.”

Newly appointed GPEC executive committee member Don Smith, president and CEO of SCF Arizona, will receive the Distinguished Service award for his leadership with SCF Arizona, his commitment to Arizona’s economic growth and his leadership and involvement at GPEC.

Individual tickets and tables are available. For more information, call (602) 262-8632.
