Maricopa County prosecutors are contesting an attorney’s motion that would exclude the confession involving Scottsdale Saguaro High School substitute teacher and assistant football coach Tom Porras.
According to police, Porras twice admitted he sexually touched a 17-year-old girl during a massage at his home last spring.
A hearing had been scheduled for Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court to determine whether Porras’ rights to remain silent and to an attorney were violated during his interview with police after his arrest in April.
That hearing is rescheduled for Dec. 20.
Porras, 49, who has pleaded innocent to a felony charge of sex abuse and a misdemeanor charge of public sexual indecency, told police he inappropriately touched the girl,
but his attorney, Amy Nguyen, is contending the confession was taken illegally.
Porras rejected a plea offer to spend 30 days in jail and register as a sex offender during a hearing in October.
If convicted, Porras could face up to two years in prison, according to information from the county prosecutor’s office.
