The Taste of Kyrene is just under a month away and organizers hope that the second go-round proves to be even more successful than the inaugural fundraising effort.

Last year, the event, hosted at the Castle at Ashley Manor in Chandler, raised $45,000 in ticket sales and donations. The money went to the Kyrene Foundation, which helps community members who are struggling financially in many different ways.

Money could go to student scholarships for things like sports or to purchase goods for the Kyrene Family Resource Center, located on the Kyrene de los Niños Elementary campus, 1330 E. Dava Drive in Tempe, where families can go if they are in financial trouble and need toiletries, clothing, food or more.

"An event like this benefits families from the entire Kyrene School District," said Tracie Rogers, of The BAR Fitness in Ahwatukee. "From the Ahwatukee Foothills angle, it's important that we realize there are families struggling to meet their daily needs."

Companies who sponsor the event, like The BAR Fitness, donate gifts, such as a month of hybrid training at their gym, to be auctioned off.

"We all have ties in some way to Kyrene and this is just a fantastic way to help," Rogers said. "The foundation is a way to directly affect families in need. It's a safe place where they can go to get help and it is anonymous."

There will also be food tasting and live entertainment at the event, which takes place on Thursday, March 1, starting at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person in advance and $70 at the door. For $100, you will get a ticket to the Taste of Kyrene as well as to the VIP Party on Friday, Feb. 10 at Fired Up Grill, 7131 W. Ray Road, Suite 45. The VIP tickets includes appetizers, a drink and a gift bag with products from business sponsors.
