As expected wrestler Derek Allen transferred to Desert Vista, Thunder coach David Gonzalez confirmed via text message.
The Allens have moved in to the Desert Vista district and was expected to walking the halls at DV on Monday after competing for Glendale Mountain Ridge his first three seasons.
Allen didn't place at the Division I state tournament at 135 pounds, one of the toughest weight classes, after finishing fourth at 130 pounds as a sophomore. His career record is 89-44 with 27 of those defeats coming as a freshman.
With a lineup that already includes three state champions, Allen's insertion will give DV at chace to finish in the top three and will be one of the favorites.
Allen will have to fill out a 520 transfer form before it will be officially decided he can wrestle for the Thunder.
Internet message boards have questioned the eligibility based on two aspects of the transfer, but Gonzalez seemed confident it would be fine.
The main reason is because Allen was on the Arizona National Greco-Roman/Freestyle team and Gonzalez is part of it the coaching staff.
Gonzalez coached the Fargo team and not the national team.
In other Desert Vista wrestling news, Alex Bambic won the gold medal at the Fila Cadet Pan Am Games in Campeche, Mexico.
His win at 220 pounds against the a wrestler from the host country sealed the U.S. win over Mexico based on total number of wins.
The 220-pound weight class had only two particiapants as other countries didn't bring wrestlers for that weight class.
Other weight classes had as many as six participants.
