A woman has died of her injuries after being struck by a car early Wednesday morning on the Warner-Elliot Loop, according to Phoenix Police.

At about 6:10 a.m. the woman was out on the sidewalk at about 11000 south Warner Elliot Loop near 44th Street and appears to have been exercising, according to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department.

A 20-year-old male was driving his 2007 Nissan Maxima headed northeast on the loop when he apparently crossed over the lanes of oncoming traffic, went up onto the sidewalk and collided with the woman, Thompson said.

The woman was taken to Maricopa Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

"We do not know who she is," said Thompson. "As difficult as it may be we need someone from the community to let us know who this woman may be."

Police are still examining the man who was driving the Maxima to see if impairment may have been an issue. The investigation is still ongoing.
