A woman was found dead in her Ahwatukee Foothills home Tuesday night after a child apparently called first responders to report that his mother had been shot.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department, the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a call at a home in the 4600 block of East Piedmont Road Tuesday night around 6:30 p.m. The Phoenix police had received a call from a child saying that his parents, Amanda Blaies-Rinaldi, 28, and Anthony Philip Rinaldi, 26, were having a bad fight. When firefighters arrived they confirmed that the woman was dead and had gunshot wounds.

Thompson said Anthony Rinaldi apparently fled the scene in his car after shots were fired, but surrendered to a Department of Public Safety officer who was conducting a traffic investigation on westbound Interstate 10 near 16th Street. Rinaldi told the officer he had shot his wife and he was taken into custody.

Rinaldi has since been booked into a Maricopa County jail and has been charged with second-degree murder. At the time of the shooting Rinaldi was employed by the Arizona Department of Corrections as a corrections officer.

There were two children home at the time of the fight, a 7-year-old and a 1-year-old. Neither were hurt. They are in the process of being placed in the custody of family members, Thompson said.
