On Aug. 13, the American Foundation for Cardiomyopathy and local businessmen Martin Sepulveda and Dave Cisiewski of M&D Partners donated an automated defibrillator to the Rio Swim Club at McClintock High School in Tempe. Sepulveda, a former ASU wrestler, presented the automated defibrillator to Rio Swim Club coach and three-time Olympic gold medalist Melissa Belote Ripley.
Ahwatukee resident Anthony Miller, president and CEO of the American Foundation for Cardiomyopathy, seeks to create awareness about cardiomyopathy and support for those already afflicted with the disease and their families through education, support groups and disease management.
Their vision is to form a collaborative effort with the medical and business communities to provide families with heart screenings, resources, training opportunities and support that will allow them to become proactive in the prevention of heart disease that affects many young athletes and children throughout the nation.
