Have you heard about BLD?

It’s a new eatery by chef Brian Peterson and restaurateurs Robert and Danielle Morris, the same trio behind Cork restaurant, and it just opened at 1920 W. Germann Road in Chandler.

Billed as a casual neighborhood joint offering “three squares with a dash of sophistication,” BLD serves — what else? — breakfast, lunch and dinner (Get it? BLD?). Menu prices range from $5 for omelets to $18 for an 8 oz. filet mignon.

As a fan of Cork’s Sunday brunch (where mimosas and bellinis are complimentary), it’s going on my list of places to check out.

Reach the restaurant at (480) 779-8646 or bldchandler.com if you want to know more.

In other dining thoughts, we’ve got out-of-town company at the Zajac household, and dinner out is in order.

Thanks to putting together the Get Out section, I’m rarely at a loss for ways to entertain visitors, but there’s one thing I’m still struggling with: Where, oh where, do you go for a truly special-occasion dinner in the East Valley?

I was hoping a quick scan of EastValleyTribune.com’s Best of East Valley section would yield an answer, but the winner in that category — D’Vine Bistro and Wine Bar — is already on our list for pop-in drinks and small plates, not the kind of big-deal, celebration dinner I’m going for.

Plenty of restaurants come to mind if I want to go to Scottsdale or Phoenix. But I don’t. We haven’t lived here all that long, and we really want to show our guests what our new home — the East Valley — is all about. And we’d really like a locally owned place, not a chain.

So, given those parameters, where would you go? I’d love to find out where you guys — my neighbors! — go to celebrate the milestones in your lives. Please email me your tips, or leave your suggestions online in the comments section following this write up. I’d appreciate it.
