Alta Ella Glass, 96, of Ahwatukee passed away on Monday, May 7 to be together again with her beloved husband, Ben.

After growing up on a farm in Texas, she remained an avid gardener her entire life. She was a seamstress and designer in Hollywood during World War II and continued to sew for herself and her family throughout her life.

At the age of 60, Alta began painting with oils, focusing on seascapes, landscapes and florals. She created hundreds of works of art in the past 30 years. Another artistic expression for Alta was her poetry, which she began writing in her teens. She wrote in response to significant life events and this poetry brought her comfort and resolution, as it does her family now.

She is survived by her daughters, Louena and Vennie, her grandchildren, Amie (Anthony), Ben (Lena), Brad (Megan), and Dawna (Brian), her great-grandchildren, Ashlen, Alexandra, Kevin, Christopher, Amanda, Levi, Zach, Jack and Natalie. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Nell and Zelpha, as well as numerous family members in Texas. She had a wonderful life and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. this Saturday, May 19 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St.
