Here is a re-posting of my intro story on Desert Vista's J'ontar Coleman when he took over in mid-January 2013.

J'ontar Coleman's name was unfamiliar to me until this weekend when he surfaced as an interim head coach for the Desert Vista girls program.

He will coach the Thunder against Sandra Day O'Connor on Tuesday evening.

Here is his bio on the team's website from last season when he was the freshman coach:

He is from Oakland, Calif., and is accompanied by his wife, Secora, and their 6 year-old daughter, Jasmine.

In Oakland, he attended Skyline High School, where he was a three-year starter on the varsity basketball team.

He achieved MVP, 1st-Team All League and scored over 1,000 points during his career there.

He went on to attend Humboldt State University in Northern California on a basketball scholarship, where he continued to win accolades as a student athlete and helped the team become the No. 1 Division II basketball team in the nation.

He graduated with a BS in Kinesiology with an emphasis on teaching and coaching. He then joined the HSU coaching staff as a student-assistant.

Jon has experience coaching as the Junior High level in 2007-2010, where he built a record of 36-3 and secured a State Championship title.

He has also coached at the 15A AAU level for boys basketball.

So there is a little bit about Coleman.
