Pyper attended the school's special education program and, by numerous accounts, touched the hearts of fellow students, staff and teachers. Pyper passed away a year ago because of a genetic disorder.

Sarah Pyper Colone, Chad's mother, addressed students, staff and family at the Dec. 10 dedication held at Desert Vista: \"When Chad left, it was on his own terms,\" she said. \"His life was very significant, and he made a difference.
The memorial at Desert Vista High School commemorates the life of Chad Pyper who attended the school and passed away due to Hunter Syndrome last December.
