Two local products were honored by the end of the year baseball awards for the Mountain West Conference.

Utah's C.J. Cron became the first two-time MWC player of the year and BYU's Jaycob Brugman was named the freshman of the year.

Cron, a 6-4, 230-pound junior, led the Mountain West in home runs (8), total bases (78), slugging percentage (.848) and on-base percentage (.509) in league play this season.

The Mountain Pointe graduate also tied for the MW lead in runs scored (31), runs batted in (29) and doubles (14) against Conference opponents in 2011.

In addition, he ranked second in batting average (.435), third in hits (40) and tied for fourth in walks (14) in Mountain West competition. Cron is the first individual to receive MW Player of the Year honors twice in his career.

Overall, Cron enters Wednesday's action in the MWC tournament hitting .444 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs.

The second-seeded Utes play San Diego State today in the second round.

Brugman, a 6-0, 185-pound freshman, led the Mountain West with four triples in conference play this season.

The Desert Vista graduate also ranked among the league's Top-10 in batting average (.418), slugging (.780) and on-base (.443) percentages, hits (38), runs batted in (25), doubles (10), home runs (5) and total bases (71). Brugman is the third Cougar to receive MW Freshman of the Year accolades, joining Matt Carson (2000) and Steve Parker (2007).

Overall, Brugman led the team in all three-triple crown categories as he hit .330 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs with 13 stolen bases.

The third-seeded Cougars lost 5-4 in the first round of the tournament to New Mexico and plays a elimination game against No. 5 UNLV.
