The Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center will be hosting its seventh annual car and motorcycle show this Saturday, Nov. 13.
All makes and models of cars and motorcycles are welcomed and wanting participants can register the day of the event, from 8 to 9 a.m., for $12. All vehicles must be parked and ready to go for the show by 10 a.m. when it opens to the public at 4700 E. Warner Road.
The show will go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the general public. For admission they will be accepting either non-perishable food items, or new, unwrapped toys. Proceeds from the event will go to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and St. Mary's Food Bank.
Lisa Robinson, special events/rental coordinator at the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center, said they really want to encourage donations because they are especially important this time of year.
"This is the time of the year we're able to donate to the community," she said.
Trophies will be awarded to participants in several different categories, including four-door stock and modified cars, two-door stock and modified cars, stock and modified pickups, etc. There will also be a best of show trophy awarded, as well as a sponsor's choice. BDM Motorsports is one of the sponsors, and will be helping in the judging process.
At this point, Robinson said it is hard to say how many people will be in attendance since the show is much smaller than most car and motorcycle shows in the Valley.
"It's more for the community," she said, adding that in the past they have had around 40 to 50 vehicles in the show.
The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle, where events-goers can purchase tickets for $1 and the winner will receive half of the money made from the raffle. There will also be a concession booth with hamburgers, hotdogs, bratwursts, water and soda for sale.
Mark Salem, of KTAR's "Under the Hood with Mark Salem," will also be out at the event and will be doing his radio show live from 11 a.m. to noon.
