Wes Gullett's op-ed ("Government's role is to help small business create jobs by reducing barriers," AFN, Aug. 28) contains a false smear. Greg Stanton served for two years as deputy attorney general and while there, his client was the people of Arizona. He lobbied to fight pay day loans, to protect Luke Air Force Base and to fight Mexican drug cartels.

Stanton does not have a personal financial interest in a lobbying firm that does business before the city, which Gullett does. By implying otherwise, Gullett disingenuously attacks Greg's wife, who is an ethics attorney at her law firm. Stanton has pledged that no member of his staff will have a personal financial interest in a lobbying firm, which Gullett hasn't. Additionally, Stanton has pledged to rid city boards and commissions of private lobbyists while Gullett has not.

Robbie Sherwood is press secretary for the Stanton for Mayor Campaign.
