A Desert Vista High School graduate passed away last Sunday as the result of a car accident in Oklahoma.
Maria Frisone was riding as a passenger in a car driven by Kaitlyn Rieker when the vehicle flipped on Interstate 40 in Washita County, Oklah., according to a report by the Oklahoman.
Frisone graduated from Desert Vista in 2008 and attended Arizona State University. She was 22 years old.
Her mother, Betina Frisone, wrote that her daughter and Rieker were driving from Phoenix to Chicago at the time of the accident. Frisone was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Facebook post made by her mother.
The Oklahoman reported that Rieker was taken to a hospital in nearby Clinton, Oklah., and was treated and released. The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on July 29 and Frisone passed away at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City around 2:50 p.m.
It is the latest tragedy to hit the Desert Vista community in the past few months. Three other Desert Vista graduates have passed away since school let out in May and the second in less than two weeks, with the other being Alex Teves, who was shot and killed in Colorado on July 20.
