Solar glass company ready to fill 100 jobs in Surprise

A Spanish-based solar glass manufacturing company building its U.S. headquarters and plant in Surprise is looking to fill more than 100 jobs.

Rioglass Solar Steel, which produces curved glass sheets used in thermo-electrical power stations, will have a job fair 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Surprise City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

Recruiters are looking to fill more than 20 positions for the Spanish-based manufacturer, including accountant, sales assistant, AP/AR coordinator, receptionist, information technology manager, maintenance technician and maintenance foreman.

Other jobs include grinding line operator, furnace line operator, mirror line operator, production supervisor, quality manager, quality lab technician, warehouse supervisor, shipping/receiving coordinator and inventory control coordinator.

Job fair attendees will view a short video presentation by Rioglass Solar and have the opportunity to meet with on-site recruiters. Prospective job seekers are asked to bring a resume and cover letter. They can also submit the information to

Rioglass Solar plans to supply glass for the Solana Generating Station near Gila Bend planned by Abengoa Solar Inc. of Spain.

A collaborative effort between the city of Surprise, Arizona Commerce Authority, Greater Phoenix Economic Council and Gov. Jan Brewer helped facilitate the decision for Rioglass Solar to locate in the Northwest Valley.

The city of Surprise is waiving more than $1 million in fees and infrastructure improvement costs for the construction of Rioglass Solar’s headquarters, which will be located north of Peoria Avenue, between Dysart and Litchfield roads in southern Surprise. In addition, Rioglass Solar also received $10.6 million in federal tax incentives to locate its manufacturing facility in Arizona.
