Senior year of high school can be an exciting time.

Graduation and prom are highlights, but it also marks a time when most students choose for the first time where they want to continue their education.

For seniors, and other interested students from Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe, Monday's College Night at DV provided an opportunity to hear from eight different colleges, plus the family of Maricopa Community Colleges.

Students and their parents filled the auditorium to listen as representatives from each institution gave a brief overview of what their school is all about.

The two Ahwatukee Foothills high schools have partnered to bring this event to the community since DV opened its doors in 1996. Counseling Department chair Mark Kulik called the event "a wonderful opportunity for students to hear about their options."

Tiana Beck, 17, a senior at DV who plans to attend MCC in the fall to pursue a career as a medical assistant, still wanted to attend the event to hear what college representatives had to say.

"The school representatives were very nice and very informative," she said.

Along with the three state universities, also in attendance was Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Mesa State College (Colorado), Southwestern College, New Mexico State and Central Arizona College.

College Night came in the wake of the announcement of this year's AP Scholars. Both Ahwatukee Foothills schools boasted high numbers in the different recognition categories.

DV has 34 AP Scholars (students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams), five National AP scholars (students who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams), 27 AP Scholars with Distinction (students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams), and 24 AP Scholars with Honors (students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams).

MP had 22 AP Scholars, three National AP Scholars, eight AP Scholars with Distinction, and 11 AP Scholars with Honor.
