Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, Michael "Mick" Haller (played by Matthew McConaughey, also known as Tripp in "Failure to Launch"), is used to representing petty criminals who are repeat offenders. He is over confident and beyond cocky, charismatic to where he operates the majority of his business right out of his Lincoln Continental. He makes the big bucks by operating his "business," and he is good at what he does. That is until he gets the most challenging case that throws him off course.
Louis Roulet (played by Ryan Phillippe, also known as Barry Cox in "I Know What You Did Last Summer"), is one of Beverly Hills' highest profile cases that Haller has ever come across and he takes the murder case with no questions asked. Haller thinks it is an open and shut case until he realizes that his new client could have a possible link to an old client he had put away years before. As a result, the once cocky money hungry defense attorney might have to reach up his sleeve for his conscience to figure out how he is going to play his cards on this one.
With a few other twists added to the mix, this movie is a suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing on what is going to happen next. The whole time you keep thinking of what Haller can do to solve his "business setback." Add an all-star cast of additional actors, including Marisa Tomei, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena and Frances Fisher, and you have yourself a must-see movie.
