Brian Rapoport of Ahwatukee Foothills always dreamed of working in the investment community on Wall Street. He has just graduated from the University of Arizona, Eller Finance in December. He came to Eller from Phoenix with a full ride scholarship to UA and a driving passion for finance.

At the age of 12 Rapoport would discuss stocks at the middle school lunch table. His father encouraged his son’s interest in learning about the market. His passion for investments led him to spend more than eight hours a week for the past 10 years researching various investments. He developed his own proprietary equity valuation model to aid in this process. In turn he managed his own portfolio, which has consistently doubled the performance of the S&P 500 Index. Eller finance alum Joe Peccolo and Matt Boltz helped Rapoport get an internship with Edward Jones in Tempe last summer.

His success led to an internship offer from the firm’s risk management department in St. Louis, where he worked this past summer in product review. In that role, he developed a quantitative metric system to help analyst’s better access the effective credit exposure for insurance products.

The head of the product review division was impressed. Rapoport received and accepted his dream job offer at the end of the summer internship. When he began in January, he was one of the youngest individuals in his division.

Rapoport graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian, and scored the second highest worldwide on the Bloomberg Assessment Test, competing with other undergraduates from top b-schools around the country. He’s currently studying to take the CFA exam in December.

In addition to his academic achievements, Rapoport has been active in student organizations, including the Eller Leadership and Integrity Training for Excellence (E.L.I.T.E.) Program, the Financial Management Association, and his church’s college ministry program.
