Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman is expecting to rake in $1 million dollars for charity in a fundraising effort that can literally be called a marathon.

Hallman projects he’ll reach the milestone Jan. 15, when he will take part in the Mayor’s Run for Wellness, which is part of the P.F. Chang’s Rock n Roll Marathon. This will be the fifth race for Hallman, who is in his last year of office. Hallman has participated by running a half-marathon in the past, but this year he’ll run his first-ever full marathon.

The prior Mayor’s Runs have raised a total of $800,000 that was raised by Hallman, hundreds of runners and corporate sponsors.

Hallman is the largest single fundraiser the race has had, according to the Competitor Group, which organizes more than two dozen Rock n Roll Marathons nationally.

This year, 19 charities will benefit. The list of sponsors and charities can be found at www.mayorsrun.org.
