Tempe City Manager Charlie Meyer was fired Monday night at a City Council meeting.
The vote to terminate his contract was 5-2.
This comes just days after Meyer himself wrote a letter to city employees saying he thought he would be fired soon.
Several council members commented on their decision saying "it's time to go in another direction" and "there were communication issues."
A few said they had positive dealings with Meyer.
Meyer could not be reached for comment Monday night. He served as City Manager since 2007.
Jeff Kulaga is now the acting City Manager.
