Jevin Hodge, a senior at Tempe’s McClintock High School, has inspired a bill – one which formally honors students for community service work – that is currently waiting for Gov. Jan Brewer’s signature. The bill creates a commendation from the governor for students who complete 200 or more community service hours.
Sponsored by Senate Democratic leader David Schapira of Tempe, the bill passed the legislature this week and is on Brewer’s desk.
“By implementing this commendation, as a state, we will be working toward one of our ultimate goals to keep our students in school,” Hodge stated in a press release.

Yes, question. Why in the world doesn't the state already have this?
