Two people are in the hospital after a wrong-way crash in Tempe.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said they got a 911 call at 1:50 a.m. on Monday reporting a driver heading the wrong way on State Route 143 near University Drive.
One minute after that, another 911 call came in reporting a crash in the same area.
DPS said a green sedan was traveling the wrong-way into northbound traffic on SR 143 at University Drive when it crashed head-on into a maroon sedan.
Both drivers were conscious when DPS officials arrived and were able to briefly speak with investigators. The drivers were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, DPS said.
Northbound SR 143 was closed from Interstate 10 to Broadway Road for several hours on Monday morning.
